Top 5 Things Anyone Can Do Immediately to Change Their Health

By Laurie Hammer, FNTP, NNTS

Our bodies were created to thrive with the right nutrition, movement and environment.  If you are struggling to know what you can do to improve your health today, start doing these 5 things and you will see almost immediate improvement in your health.

1.     Stop drinking soda pop:  When I say stop drinking Soda Pop…I mean diet AND regular pop.  Studies have shown that drinking 1 soda a day can increase liver fat by 150%, especially if these are sweetened with high-fructose corn syrup. When the liver becomes fatty, the body’s ability to detox diminishes as well as the ability to regulate proper blood sugar levels.  Give filtered water a try!  It is really good for you :)

2.     Cut out all processed sugars:  Processed sugar is 800% sweeter than what is found in nature. These process sugars cause inflammation in the body and significantly contribute to heart disease, cancer, diabetes and auto-immune conditions.  Stick with honey, maple syrup and stevia.

3.     Cut out all processed oils like soy, corn, canola, sunflower, safflower and grapeseed oils.  These oils go rancid very quickly during processing. Consuming rancid oils causes cellular inflammation leading to many diseases.  Replace these toxic oils with Grass-fed butter, coconut oil, ghee, cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil and avocado oil.

4.     Stop Snacking: I know this is a hard one for many people because we think we are hungry, when in reality, our body is not starving.  We simply need to retrain the body to burn fat instead of sugar.  Truth is, the more often one eats, the more often glucose is released into the body.  The more glucose being released, the more fat storage is created in the body.  First step to losing weight is to eat less often.

5.     Move at least 15 minutes a day.  Start with walking around the block and work your way up to more intense and targeted movement.  The lymph system in the body can either be like a river of fresh moving water or a stagnant swamp.  We have to move in order for our lymph to remove waste from the body.
